the first post of the new year! it’s refreshing! 2008! what should i think about? my new year’s resolutions? my plans? no, something more important. yes, i have it. justin timberlake.

i’m pretty sure his hot ass is describing me — if even for just a few of the lyrics — in “lovestoned,” when he says, “all she wants to do is dance; that’s why you’ll find her on the floor. but you don’t have a chance … unless you move the way that she likes.”

and justin moves well. so he’d know. except i haven’t actually met him. yet. maybe someday.

when i go out dancing (except at the country bar, which sort of requires i dance with some fine cowboy since they don’t usually play groove music there) somewhere that plays straight-up hip-hop or sultry R&B or smooth jazz, i can’t be around anyone. the beat grabs my hips and it’s all over. i need to have my space. i don’t participate in all this interactive dancing you see in the music videos. i’m the chick in the center, moving around a bit just to be sure that i don’t give skeezy dudes the opportunity to latch on and cramp my style.

different story if he can dance, or if he’s justin timberlake. because guys who can dance, and girls, too, typically want what i want — space to dance. but i can definitely dance with a guy who gets it. the problem is that most don’t. or at least i’ve found from my experiences. of course these mostly are relegated to rural ohio bars and a few occasions like new year’s on rush street in chicago (hott) or in dc or clarendon, though rare. i intend to give the manhattan clubs a try soon enough. maybe i’ll find more of my kind there. then get addicted. then finally suck it up and move there. insatiable energy, josh, jazz, jobs… and all the dancing my feet will allow.

i mean, at the very least, i’d have a better chance of running into mr. timberlake. and jemaine clement, though he’s probably not in the clubs… maybe 2008 is my year?
